Tuesday 27:th of August is Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Day!

In Sweden we now celebrate the Memorial Day of Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat who rescued tens of thousands of jewish people in Hungary at the end of the last war.

All over the world schools, places, parks etc have been named after Wallenberg. Many monuments have been raised to honour his memory. We can hardly find any other Swede with his fame!

It is quite exciting to be related to this person even  if the link spreads over quite a long period of time. Anyhow, the other day I found the shown photo in a drawer. This is Otto Benedicks pictured 1893 at the Gysinge Manor at age 23. He is the brother of my grandfather and could sure ride a horse!. He and my grandfather had an aunt named Sofie Benedicks who is the grandmother of the quite more famous diplomat Raoul Wallenberg!

Otto is burried at the church of Österfärnebo not far from Gysinge in Gästrikland! Raoul Wallenberg's last resting place is not known but he is sure not forgotten!
